Museum Valuations

Coram James provides independent art valuations and collection audits for museums, universities, galleries, corporate and heritage collections, and significant private collections on public loan.

We work with curators, registrars, collection managers, auditors and professional advisers, including the Big Four accountancy firms, providing valuations that are thoroughly researched, independently evidenced and defensible for audit, insurance and financial reporting purposes.

We are instructed by government departments, including on works covered by the Government Indemnity Scheme.

Our specialists cover a broad range of collecting areas, including modern and contemporary art, Old Masters, antiquities, Asian and world art, decorative arts, jewellery and watches, books and manuscripts. Each field is assessed by a specialist with senior auction house and market experience, ensuring that each object is valued by an expert with knowledge of its particular market.

How We Work

We work alongside curators, registrars, collections teams, auditors and professional advisers, undertaking valuations on site and to your timetable, with minimal disruption to displays and stores.

Our reports provide a clear audit trail, with values supported by appropriate market evidence and specialist research. Reports are prepared in accordance with RICS Valuation – Global Standards (the Red Book) and signed by a named RICS Registered Valuer, providing an independent and defensible basis for audit, insurance and other professional requirements.
